A new experiment
Dear subscriber,
Hello! It’s been a while since you last saw me. You likely subscribed to my newsletter on xavierlv.com some time ago. You’re probably a software engineer, maybe starting out, or perhaps you’ve been doing this for a few years. It could have been that my posts on happiness and wellbeing resonated with you. In any case, thank you for your interest and I hope you’re well.
I’d like to quickly introduce myself again, and tell you what I intend to do with this newsletter and why I’m excited to share.
My name is Xavier Lopez. I’ve been a software engineer since 2010 but I’ve been writing code since I was a kid. Professionally I’ve worked at tech companies for the last 12 years, mostly doing front-end development. I’ve also done more full-stack work over the past several years and I’ve taken on some technical leadership roles as well. I’ve worked at companies like Venmo, Codecademy, Heroic, and other awesome startups.
On the more personal side, I live in my native Puerto Rico with my wife and our dog Sabio. I love to learn about new things in tech (currently learning about AI), philosophy, and wellbeing.
The way I see it, I have a lot to teach after being a dev for thousands of hours. Which is why I’m excited to share that I intend to send a weekly issue where I will talk about one insight from my dev career, one thing I learned in the past week, and one recommendation for the upcoming week.
Why did I name it Nuanced Experiments? One reason is that this is itself an experiment, one of many I’m trying in my life. I am committing to sending an issue every week, and I don’t know how it will be received. And these experiments are nuanced because I don’t believe in black or white thinking for most things. We will hopefully learn together.
With that short intro out of the way… Thank you for your support and see you next time!
